Product Page Optimization

Also known as: PPO, App Store A/B testing

Short definition

Product Page Optimization is the App Store's built-in A/B test: it shows up to three alternative versions of your default product page (icon, screenshots or app previews) to a share of visitors and reports which one converts better.

Detailed

Tests run in App Store Connect for up to 90 days on real App Store traffic, and Apple reports conversion for each treatment with a confidence level. New screenshots or previews in a treatment go through App Review before the test starts. When a treatment wins, you can apply it to your default product page. Product Page Optimization tests the default page; custom product pages are separate pages for specific campaigns or searches.

Example

A developer tests a new first screenshot that leads with the app's streak feature against the current one, splits traffic 50/50, and after three weeks sees the new screenshot convert 19% better at 92% confidence, so they make it the default.
