Best ASO Tools for Indie Developers in 2026 (Honest Comparison)

Quick answer: If you're a solo developer on a tight budget, start with Apple's free tools (App Analytics, product page optimization and Apple Ads search terms data) and add one paid tool only when you can name the job it does for you. For cheap keyword tracking across both stores, Applyra has a free plan and one $9.99/month plan. For keyword data inside an AI coding agent, Sonar and Applyra both ship MCP servers. For an all-in-one workspace with screenshots and store publishing, look at AppDrift. For review management at scale, AppFollow. And if you want an agent that actually proposes and ships App Store listing changes for your approval, that's what we built Forvibe to do.

Disclosure: Forvibe publishes this blog. We've tried to describe every tool, including ours, from its own public pages. Prices and plans below were checked on October 24, 2026 and will change; always confirm on the vendor's pricing page.

Start with what's free

Before paying for anything, use what Apple and Google already give you:

  • App Analytics (App Store Connect): impressions, product page views, conversion rate and downloads, filterable by source such as App Store search.
  • Product page optimization: test up to three alternate icon, screenshot or app preview treatments against your original page (Apple's guide).
  • Custom product pages: up to 70 per app, and you can assign keywords so a custom page appears in search instead of your default page.
  • Apple Ads search terms: even a small Apple Ads Advanced campaign shows you which real queries lead to taps and installs. See our Apple Ads vs ASO guide.
  • Google Play Console: store listing experiments and acquisition reports for Android.

What these don't give you: daily keyword rank tracking per country, competitor keyword data, and help writing and shipping changes. That's what you pay a tool for.

How we compared

For indie developers, five questions matter more than feature counts:

  1. Which store(s)? App Store only, or Google Play too?
  2. Does it only report, or does it also act? (writes metadata, publishes, replies to reviews)
  3. Can my AI coding agent use it? (MCP server or API)
  4. What does the plan I'd actually need cost?
  5. Does the free tier let me evaluate it with my real app?

Forvibe

What it is: an AI ASO Agent for the App Store. It tracks keywords per country, researches competitors, proposes changes to your title, subtitle, keywords and screenshots, runs product page tests and replies to reviews. You approve each change before it ships.

Plans (from our pricing page): Free (1 project, 200 AI credits once, store listing, legal page and landing page tools); Indie Dev $19/month (ASO Agent, 2 markets, 100 tracked keywords, 5 competitors, 2 custom product pages per app, product page tests); Startup $49/month (5 markets, 400 keywords, 20 competitors, 5 seats).

Good fit if: you ship on iOS and want the work done, not just reported.

Limitations: the ASO Agent is App Store-first. On Google Play, Forvibe handles review replies today; keyword tracking for Play isn't the focus yet. If Android is your main store, one of the cross-store tools below will serve you better.

Sonar (trysonar.app)

What it is: an "agentic ASO" tool that gives your AI agent App Store and Google Play keyword data through an MCP server (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients), with a dashboard alongside.

Plans (from Sonar's site): Indie $29/month or $290/year (10 apps, 2,500 tracked keywords); Agency $149/month or $1,490/year (50 apps, 10,000 keywords, 5 seats). 7-day free trial with a card required.

Good fit if: you already work inside an AI coding agent and want it to do keyword research and drafting there.

Limitations: it supplies data and drafts to your agent; you or your agent still apply the changes.

AppDrift (appdrift.co)

What it is: an all-in-one ASO workspace covering keyword tracking, competitor analysis, a weekly action plan, an AI screenshot generator and screenshot studio, a listing editor, translation, review replies and store publishing to App Store Connect and Google Play, plus MCP and API access.

Plans (from AppDrift's pricing page): Free (1 app, 5 keywords); Basic $14.99/month (5 apps, 50 keywords); Indie $29/month (10 apps, 2,500 keywords, 7-day trial); Studio $59/month (50 apps, 10,000 keywords).

Good fit if: you want one tool for both stores that covers tracking, creative and publishing.

Limitations: breadth means more to learn; check that the AI token allowance on your plan covers the screenshot and listing work you plan to do.

Applyra (applyra.io)

What it is: keyword tracking, keyword discovery, competitor intelligence and AI listing suggestions for both stores, with a REST API and an MCP server.

Plans (from Applyra's pricing page): Free (1 app, 5 keywords, 1 competitor, 7 days of history); Unlimited $9.99/month or $8.33/month billed yearly (unlimited apps, keywords and competitors under a fair-use policy, API and MCP).

Good fit if: you have several small apps and want rank tracking on both stores for the price of a coffee.

Limitations: it suggests changes; publishing them is up to you.

AppFollow (appfollow.io)

What it is: a feedback and reputation platform that pulls reviews from the App Store, Google Play and other sources, with AI-powered review management, workflow automation, integrations (Slack, Zendesk and others), ASO and competitor tracking, and an MCP & AI toolkit.

Plans: AppFollow offers a free trial; detailed plan pricing is handled through its pricing page and sales team.

Good fit if: review volume is your bottleneck, or support and product teams need the same feedback data.

Limitations: it's built for teams; a solo developer with a few dozen reviews a month may not need this depth. We wrote a fuller Forvibe vs AppFollow comparison.

How to choose in five minutes

  • Budget under $10/month, both stores: Applyra.
  • You live in Claude Code or Cursor: Sonar or Applyra (both MCP), or Forvibe's MCP server.
  • You want screenshots, tracking and publishing in one place across both stores: AppDrift.
  • Hundreds of reviews a week: AppFollow.
  • iOS-first and you want changes proposed and shipped for you: Forvibe.

Whatever you pick, measure it. Write down your current impressions, product page conversion rate and downloads from App Analytics before you change anything, and compare equal periods afterwards. A tool that doesn't move those numbers within a couple of release cycles isn't worth keeping.

Try Forvibe on your own app

The fastest way to judge any ASO tool is with your own listing. Forvibe's free plan shows what your listing is missing; the ASO Studio and keyword research pages explain what the agent does once hired. Start free, or read how an agent compares with an agency or a tool.
