Promotional Text
Also known as: Promo Text
Short definition
Promotional Text is a 170-character field on the iOS App Store product page that appears above the main description and can be updated without submitting a new binary for review.
Detailed
Introduced with iOS 11 in 2017, Promotional Text is the only App Store metadata field that does not require a new version submission — making it the ideal surface for announcing limited-time sales, new feature launches between releases, or seasonal messaging. It does not affect search ranking on iOS (keywords do that), but it strongly affects conversion.
Example
A habit-tracker app updates its Promotional Text from 'The fastest way to build daily routines.' to '🎉 Black Friday: 40% off yearly plan, ends Dec 2' the morning of the sale, without touching the binary or waiting for App Review.
